7 signs your website is losing you local customers

5 July 2026 4 min read

A website can look perfectly fine and still quietly lose you business every week. Here are seven signs yours might be, and the good news is most are quick to fix.

1. It is slow

If your site takes more than a few seconds to load on a phone, a chunk of visitors leave before they see it. Speed also affects where you rank on Google.

2. It does not work well on a phone

Most of your customers are on a mobile. If your site is fiddly to use on a small screen, tiny text, buttons you cannot tap, they give up.

3. There is no obvious way to call you

On a phone, your number should be one tap away. If a visitor has to hunt for how to contact you, many will not bother.

4. You are invisible on Google

If you do not appear when people search for what you do nearby, the site could be beautiful and it would not matter. Being found is half the job.

5. It looks dated

Fair or not, people judge a business by its website. A tired design makes even an excellent business look like it might have shut down.

6. It is not clear what you want them to do

Every page should gently point to one next step: call, book, or get in touch. If it does not, visitors drift off.

7. You cannot update it yourself

If changing a price or a photo means paying someone every time, the site slowly goes out of date, and an out-of-date site loses trust.

If a few of these ring true, it is worth a proper look. Often a handful of fixes makes a real difference to the number of enquiries a site brings in.
